About my research

This research is all about collect and analyze the information  about my final topic – premarital sex. In fact, since this is a topic I really curious about, I have been working on this research for a long time.
The purpose of this research is: 1. getting myself acquaint to the different attitudes between western and eastern societies; 2. analyzing the advantage and disadvantage about premarital sex; 3. Try to figure out an appropriate way for us to treat premarital sex.
In order to get all these purposes done, I turned to “Galileo”. I found lots of research data about the attitude towards premarital sex both in eastern and western societies, such as “Attitude Towards Premarital Sex among Rural College Youth in Maharashtra, India.” “Continuity and Change in Premarital Sex in Vietnam.” “Trends in Premarital Sex in the United States, 1954-2003.” I also got some papers about the advantages and disadvantages, like “”searched the internet to access the latest opinions and debates about this issue both in America and in China.Premarital sex is a very personal topic, so I made some interviews with my schoolmates. Through the chatting, I collected many real thoughts about how different people treat sex.

Some resources for my final essay

My final essay will introduce different attitudes about premarital sex in different cultures and analyze the how the culture influence peoples’ attitudes.
troubledwith.com, there is a real story that can be my example in essay.
Besides websites, there are two main articles I will use. One is a “premarital sec” from web; the other is “Premarital Sexual Attitudes and Experiences in University Students” from Galileo. The first article holds the statement that people shouldn’t have sex before marriage. It tells us some different attitude about premarital sex through some results of several researches, and briefly illustrates why he doesn’t agree premarital sex. I like it because it is an exiguous article that doesn’t explain reasons with real numbers instead of Bible. The second one is kind of a research report. And I have learned a lot about how to organize a survey from this article.
Another resource will be my own survey and interview. In fact, I have done several interviews with my friends about this issue already. I think the real words my interviewee says can really help a lot and be persuasive.
Anyway, in the resource aspect, I guess I have been will prepared for my final essay. I believe I can handle the final essay while keep working on it. Wish me good luck~

Summary about the article

The article I choose for my second essay is PREMARITAL SEXUAL ATTITUDES AND EXPERIENCES IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.
First part – INTRODUCTION. It introduced the common attitude of premarital sex in eastern societies living within Islamic culture. And also it gave us a result of a research about premarital sex in eastern societies which helped analyzing why eastern people treat premarital sex so different from western societies. Then it gives out two main purposes in this essay’s studyinvestigating the effects of westernization process, on premarital sexual attitudes and behaviors in settled Islamic culture & determining the effects of dysfunctional sexual beliefs in same culture on sexual attitudes and behaviors.
Second part – METHOD. In this part, it provided us the participants, procedure, questions (included female version and male version), and the statistical evaluation of this study survey.
Third part – RESULTS. This part gave us detailed results of this survey, including 9 tables of the statistical data and associated literal explanation.
Fourth part – DISCUSSION. What can we learn from the results? In this part, author discussed what each number stands for in this study and what we can tell from comparing the different percentages.
Fifth part – CONCLUSION. After analyzing all the data, author argued that premarital sexual attitudes and behaviors were less liberal among this study subjects compared to those of western societies, however they were more liberal than societies living within traditional Islamic culture, and that there was gender-based double standard prevailing.

about my classmate's topic

In last class, we talked with each other about our topics.
Kecia Snyder, a very kind and confident girl who is major in IT, she said in her major, most students are boys, and in our daily life, it seems that there’s a rule or something that the one who will fix our computer problems must turns out to be a man. Is IT really a world just for boys? Apparently Kecia doesn’t agree with it.

Why boys enjoy the priority in some IT jobs? Girls can be as good as they are, she said, we can even do much better, I mean, we have better patient and chariness, we work hard, and we are totally competent to do such work.

Her topic is right around this problem, unfortunately, she has not find a nice web site for her view. However, I believe this confident girl will make it anyway, best wishes for her and her interesting topic~

About changing my topic

Since the topic is too professional to me now and I don’t want to be a dead man at the end of this semester, I decide to change my topic to something interesting, something I do not really know but kind of curious about — sex.
I don't wanna talk about sex itself, but the different concepts about it between east and west society. Let me be specific, I just want to say something about  a formulary thought which had been rooted in Chinese society for thousands of years – sex before marriage is the most evil thing for girls. In China, if a girl is found have had sex before getting married, she will be blame, her family will feel shame, and even her boyfriend will leave her for she is no longer a virgin…
Isn’t it unfair for females? Why this theory is wide-spread in China? Do people still believe in this in modern society? How about in America, do America is a sex-saturated society as those movies shows, that even high school students are having sex? What do Americas think about sex before marriage?
I guess I’ll have to do lots of research about this topic and wish my assignments will be smooth~

assignment 1(topic reflection)

There is an adage in Chinese: preparedness ensures success, unpreparedness spells failure(凡事预则立不预则废). As a junior student major in MET (Mechanical Engineering Technology), inevitably, I’m becoming more and more curious about the demands of the society for MET students and how can I get my career preparation better done. I decided to choose this topic for my first assignment.

I used to be a puerility girl, never worried about my future, I thought life is already there waiting for me, graduate from university, find a job, get retired and live a happy life. This stupid thought has accompanied me about 19 years. Not until I came here, my parents and I are on the different sides of the earth, did I realize that I’m the person who should be responsible to myself. Once, when I was hanging out with someone working in the business office, he told me that “it’s becoming harder and harder to find a job for a MET student now. The demand of society is reaching saturation point. And the economic crisis makes the problem even worse.” Is that true? Do we MET students really standing on a nonplus? What can I do to accelerate my career preparation and engineer my future? In order to give answers to the questions above, I guess I really need to do some research.

About my resource, I think since I’m in university, I have many advantages.

Firstly, the library. our library holds more than 110,000 catalogued volumes, 1,500 periodicals and serial titles, microforms, U.S. geological survey maps for the state of Georgia, and circulating reserve collections of texts and tests. And we can use GALILEO, a system that provides access to all college and university libraries throughout the state [1].

Secondary, the Internet. I can simply find useful data through Internet. Here, I’d like to recommend my favorite web site in searching for some resource: http://www.delicious.com. This web site provides a stage where people can share the web site which they think is useful. All the web sites been recommend are classified in different fields by their tags. And we can easily tell which one is probably more useful from the number which shows how many people think this web site is nice and have shared it. Till now, I find a nice place for my research from “delicious”: http://www.asme.org. And I believe I will achieve more useful resource here.

Third, the people here. In university, I guess the most direct and effective way to get information is ask. Professors are always there waiting for kinds of questions loyally. And the staff working in the students’ business office is the ones who know the information of the graduated students most. Also, I can talk with my peers about their plans for future, I believe some of them, especially the senior students, have already done some research about the job-hunting thing.

Anyway, I hope I can not only finish an assignment, but also do learn something about my major and get myself better prepared for my future through the process.

ABOUT me

Hi, everyone, I’m WuDongli. I’ve just been this beautiful university (SPSU) like one week, have to say I love the perfect weather and scenery here.

I’m a Scorpio. Scorpios are supposed to be extremely secretive by nature, they can be a very trusted friend or, alternatively, they can be a most fearsome enemy. That’s exactly me. I’m 19 years old now, and in these 19 years, somebody loves me while maybe someone hates me. I guess it may due to my “too” candour, I mean, what my heart thinks, my tongue speaks. I can’t tell this character is merit or disadvantage, but I do make some pretty nice friends who like my straightforward, so I think it’s fine.

Another obvious character of me is a litter boylish inside. I’m saying “inside” is because I do look like a normal, feminine girl, Thin, short, long hair. However, I say it’s obvious is because, since very young time, this litter girl in front of you is exactly the one who always be disciplined for doing some dangerous things with boys, like climbing the 10-meter-hight tree, exploring in the forest without accompanied by adults, slipping down stairs by sitting on the handrail and things like those. Have to say, comparing with dressing up doll, hanging out with boys to do something exciting is much more attractive to me~

And, I love nature, love the green trees extending as far as my sight, love to be wake up by birds’ beautiful songs, love to walking on the grass and feeling my toe wet by the dew. For me, Clouds drifting in the sky is really a glamorous painting, much more charming than the stiffness building. So, I always dream that, someday when I retired, I can live in a log cabin adjoin the lake, trees around my house are profiled against the blue sky, my naughty dog napping in the garden and the gold sunshine makes every corner bright. And I, sitting on the rocking chair with the man I’m meant to spend the rest of my life with.

Well, tell sth about my study~ em, I think since I’m a international student, the language barrier is really tough, especially in the composition 2. I’m not saying I don’t like writing, I just do not good at express myself in English. I mean, ideas are crowed in my mind, but I can’t find a fit word, so it always takes too long to tell them out. And when in this class, my reading is also too slow to catch up with my professor, oh, sad. But, I guess I wouldn’t give up, this’s just a beginning, I believe I can do better through hard work. Anyway, I need your help, no matter who you are, professor or classmate or just a guy who come here by chance, I’ll be appreciate it if you point out the mistakes in my passage or give me some advises.

Thank you~
